According to a report by the Red Deer Advocate, Alberta Downs owner Robert Allen has stated that he wasn't surprised the inaugural standardbred meet

at the Lacombe oval had to be shortened due to track issues.

“I call myself a victim of new construction. It’s just not settled properly,” Allen was quoted as saying. Allen also stated that 99 per cent of the track was fine, but "the frost started coming out of the ground and the track was starting to get soft right at the finish line.”

Allen was also quoted as saying that he expected there were going to be some issues with the track because it was brand new.
