Cullen Crew Perfect At Century
The Travis Cullen stable was invincible on Sunday, July 31 at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino, going five-for-five on the afternoon card.
Cullen's perfect afternoon began in the second race with Kurt and Kathy Schmidt's maiden-breaking two-year-old filly Lil Bit Of Jingle ($3.20). Alberta's leading horseman was victorious in back-to-back races as five-year-old Brandons Cowboy mare Cowgirl Poker ($3.40), co-owned by the Don Byrne Stables, extended her win streak to seven in a row.
Runway Model ($7.70) later picked up her 13th victory of 2016 in race five for Cullen and his co-owners, Jason and Keith Hannah. The five-year-old Classic Card Shark mare is now one of the winningest horses in North America so far this year tied with three other horses, including her stablemate Counter Strike, who is entered on Monday.
Four-year-old mare Fire Watch ($4.20) later prevailed by a neck in the seventh race for Cullen, his father Ron and Dwayne Taylor, and then two-year-old filly Pickles On Top ($3.60) earned her second career win for the Cullens, Keith Hannah, and Don Byrne Stables.
With three training wins on Saturday's card, Cullen's weekend win total now stands at eight, which gives him 160 on the year to lead all trainers in Canada.
If your name wasn't Travis, your chances of making it to the winner's circle on Sunday were slim as Travis Bowman also enjoyed multiple wins on the day. Bowman had a driving triple, scoring with the maiden-breaking four-year-old May Day Cam ($34.90) for trainer Dan Sifert, first-time starter Stylomilohos ($11.40) for Richard Lancaster, and Yanotherhos ($5.70) for Jeff Waltenburgh.
Gerry Hudon was the exception to Sunday's 'Travis rule,' winning the remaining race with Mach Away ($5.20).
