Trotters, Riders Debut Under Saddle
Long weekends in Canada are synonymous with good times and the Civic Holiday weekend will be no exception.
Grand River Raceway in beautiful Elora, Ontario is the home to Industry Day, one of the most exciting days of racing. On a card that features the $159,500 Battle Of Waterloo and the $107,800 Battle of the Belles for two-year-old pacers, the undercard will be supported by the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold for three-year-old pacing fillies, an Invitational pace honouring Bill McDonnell and a trotting race featuring Racing Under Saddle. First race post time is 1:30 p.m.
The Mad Barn Nutrition-sponsored RUS race is slated as the third race of the day. The field features a compact group with exactor and triactor wagering offered. Drawn as a handicap, two horses have entered as well as two riders making their first appearance of the 2016 season. Amber Lawson-Brand will hold the reins of classy veteran trotter Osprey Vision, and rider Nadine Habke will be aboard the perennial crowd favourite Callie Magoo for their first starts of the season. Also fresh to racing under saddle is Gracies Harmony with RUS regular Marielle Enberg doing the riding. They will face off with Georgian Downs RUS winner Muscle Matters and rider Sarah Town and three-time 2016 RUS winner Southwind Alice with Evelyn Harms in the irons.
Mad Barn Nutrition has sponsored rider Sarah Town for two seasons as well as sponsoring one of the highlight races each season on Industry Day at Grand River Raceway. Dedicated to equine nutrition and providing quality products that truly help horses reach their top potential, Mad Barn Nutrition will present the winner with a blanket in the Winner’s Circle.
RUS Ontario will have a booth set up with retired racing under saddle equine star Tragically Shipp available to receive fans. In addition, 2015 RUS Ontario High Point Rider Natalie Elliott and other riders will be on hand to sign programs, join in on selfies and talk racing under saddle.
The RUS event is one of the featured questions in the I Love Canadian Harness Racing Fan Club's Industry Day Online Handicapping Contest.
