McClure Sweeps Georgian Preferreds
In Secret ran out of racetrack when he stormed home to finish a bang-up fourth in last Tuesday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 Trot at Georgian Downs, but he arrived on time to take home bragging rights in this week’s edition of the top class for trotters.
With Bob McClure at the controls, In Secret tucked into the four-hole while Doubledown Gass fired to the front and rolled the field through panels of :28, :58.2 and 1:27.3. McClure came first-over with charge going to the half, and they were just a length away from the leader heading into the final quarter of the contest. In Secret’s :28.1 closing speed helped propel him to the win by three-quarters of a length over Doubledown Gass in 1:56. Landonfitz was third.
Per Henriksen trains the four-year-old son of Deweycheatumnhowe-Secret Magic for Andrea Lea Racingstables Inc and ASA Farms. Sent off as the 2-1 favourite, In Secret won for the fifth time this season and for the 10th time in his career. He pushed his lifetime earnings over $150,000 with the victory.
McClure also mapped out the winning trip for Fashion Goddess, who went to the front and didn’t look back en route to a 1:55 decision in the $7,500 Preferred 3 Trot.
The Ben Baillargeon pupil steamrolled to the top and chopped out fractions of :28.1, :57.2 and 1:26 before scooting home in a :29-second clip to win by 3-3/4 lengths over Mandeville. Covert Operative took home the show dough.
Sent off at odds of 9-2, the five-year-old daughter of Broadway Hall-Athena Hanover motored to the win for owner Claude Hamel of Ayer’s Cliff, QC. The five-time winner bumped her bankroll to $131,981 with the win.
