Three divisions of two-year-old trotting colts and geldings chased some serious cash during Monday’s 10-race card at Mohawk Racetrack, as the Campbellville oval hosted another round of the OSS Gold Series.

Rose Run Speedster, who entered his $70,000 assignment riding a two-race winning streak, extended his streak to three-in-a-row thanks to a come-from-behind score in 1:59 for Team MacDonald. The son of Windsong Espoir-Padam Hall was treated to a ground-saving trip in the three-hole for most of the mile before angling out late and storming to the win in 1:59. Life Well Lived was a lapped-on runner-up, with Amanforallseasons taking home the show dough.

Anthony MacDonald mapped out the winning trip for the Amy MacDonald trainee, who is owned by Rene Allard of Matamoras, PA and Rose Run Speedster Stable of Guelph, Ont. The three-time winner, who was $14,000 purchase from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale, has banked more than $77,000 to date.

Manssive topped a Muscle Mass-sired Triactor in the second division. The colt shot to the early lead for driver Corey Callahan, who then accepted a two-trip when confronted and overtaken by race favourite Mass Production. That colt sliced out middle splits of :58.2 and 1:29.2, but he couldn’t seal the deal. Manssive rallied from the pocket and used a :29-second kicker to win by a half-length margin over Mass Production. Dream Massive rounded out the top three finishers.

Howie Okusko, Jr. trains the son of Muscle Mass-Smooth And Sassy for M And L Of Delaware LLC of Wilmington, DE. The $23,000 purchase from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale, owns a 2-1-0 record from four starts in addition to a bankroll that stands just shy of $37,000.

Clarion Hall needed a replacement driver at the last minute, and James MacDonald made the most of the opportunity with the Rene Allard trainee. The colt was scheduled to be driven by Jody Jamieson, but his late arrival to the Campbellville oval after racing earlier in the evening at Grand River Raceway opened the door for MacDonald.

Clarion Hall got away in the garden spot from Post 6, and from there he tracked Reach The Peak through fractions of :28.1, :59 and 1:28.4. Reach The Peak weakened late, and that allowed MacDonald to shoot through late and post the 1:58.3 triumph with the son of Windsong Espoir-Canland Hall. He prevailed by a half-length margin over the hard-charging Noble Prize. Reach The Peak settled for the show dough.

Sent off at odds of 5-1, Clarion Hall posted the maiden-breaking win for Allard and partners Yves Sarrazin of La Presentation, QC and Earl Hill, Jr. of Ohsweken, Ont. In three tries the rookie now owns a 1-0-2 record and purse earnings totalling $45,080.

Monday’s card also featured the second leg of the Dream Maker Series, and the lone division was one for the longshot players thanks to the 17-1 upset turned in by Deadly Action.

Randy Waples hustled the ridgling into the three-hole from Post 7, but they didn’t sit for long. The son of Art Major-Spirit Of The West sprinted to the lead in the backstretch and from there he rolled the youngsters through panels of :57.2 and 1:26.1. A :29-second final frame earned the rookie his first win from three trips to the track. He won by a length over Bobcat Bound in 1:55.1. Beyond Delight was a distant third.

Johnson shares ownership on the $37,000 purchase from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale with Thomas Kyron and Mac Nichol. The pacer owns a 1-0-1 record from three trips to the track, and his lifetime earnings climbed to $8,680.
