Ufdragons Rocket Overcomes Post Nine
Ufdragons Rocket and driver Robert Shepherd overcame an outside post nine start at Georgian Downs to win the $7,500 Preferred 3 Pace featured on Sunday night (July 24).
With the inside post advantage, A Boy Named Suuzz (J.B. Renaud) grabbed the early lead while Mach On The Beach (Steve Byron) pursued from post six and cleared to command past the quarter-pole, which was reached in :26.4. Shippen Out (Travis Henry) then worked first over with favourite Sports Lightning (Scott Young) following his cover and Ufdragons Rocket moving third over after finding a spot in sixth-place off the gate.
Mach On The Beach continued to lead to the half in :56.2 with Shippen Out moving up alongside and edging ahead before the 1:24.2 third quarter mark. Shippen Out began to open up on top on the final turn so Shepherd sent Ufdragons Rocket three-wide around Sports Lightning and reeled in the front-runner down the stretch for the half-length victory in 1:53.2. Arrived Late (Bob McClure) did as his name suggests as he closed from the backfield to finish third over Sports Lightning.
Ufdragons Rocket earned his fourth win of the year from 25 starts and lifted his seasonal earnings to $40,650. The seven-year-old Dragon Again gelding is trained by Richard Moreau for 5527920 Manitoba Ltd.
He paid $10.20 to win as the 4-1 second choice on the toteboard.
