Eight Straight For All About Madi
All About Madi extended her win streak to eight in the Frank and Beth Stanfield Memorial Stakes for three-year-old filly pacers on Sunday (July 24) at Truro Raceway.
With Walter Cheverie in the sulky, All About Madi secured the leading role past the :29.3 first quarter mark and raced by the half in :58.4 and three-quarters in 1:28.2 with Howmacfiesty and a three-wide Southfield Sassy challenging to her outside. However, All About Madi pulled one length clear at the finish in 1:58.4 to keep her win streak alive and earn her biggest stakes victory yet. R Es Miss Amy closed from second over to snag the runner-up role over Howmacfiesty and Southfield Sassy.
Leith Waite trains the homebred Brandons Cowboy-Jk Casablanca filly and shares ownership with Leslie and Spencer Waite of Charlottetown. Unraced as a two-year-old, All About Madi has won 10 of her 15 starts this year while banking $37,210.
Two $25,807 divisions of the Stanfield were contested with Howmacscanasta winning the fastest race in 1:57.1. Trained and driven by Gilles Barrieau, the Articulator-Stonebridge Capri filly took the lead after the :28.4 opening quarter and carved out middle splits of :57.1 and 1:27.1 before fending off first over challenger Shalara by half a length while early leader Glory Jean finished one length behind in third.
Howmacscanasta earned her fourth win of the year from seven starts for owner Wayne Mac Rae of Fall River, N.S., and his Saint John, N.B. partners Robert Tilley and Lester Mott. She has won half of her 18 career starts and now boasts a bankroll totalling $64,093.
