Drivers Injured In Exhibition Park Spill
Trot Insider has learned that two drivers were sent to hospital after sustaining injuries in an accident at Exhibition Park Raceway on Saturday afternoon (July 23).
Drivers Ed Harvey and Stephen Trites were transported to hospital following an accident in the fourth race. Early reports from New Brunswick indicate that Harvey sustained injuries to his hand and ribs when Allstar Seelster fell in the first turn after taking the lead. Trites is reported to have suffered a knee injury after being dragged in the sulky by Ideal Ticket until his mount was stopped at the fence.
Dr. Mitchell Downey was also unseated from his race bike behind Stare Down during the incident, but was able to resume driving duties and bounced back with a victory aboard Fall Bliss in the afternoon's top class two races later.
All three horses involved in the accident reportedly walked away under their own power.
Further updates will be provided when available.
Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing the drivers and horses involved a full and speedy recovery.
