'Mademoiselle' & Hennessy Pile Up Wins
Mademoiselle Paris is the winningest horse of the year at Saratoga Casino Hotel thus far in 2016 and the claiming pacer added to her win total on Friday night (July 22).
Wally Hennessey piloted Mademoiselle Paris to her sixth consecutive victory on Friday in the optional $10,000 claimer for pacing mares. The six-year-old distaffer by Bolero Charles had a pair of wins on her resume this year while competing at Harrington Raceway in Delaware and has become the star of the claimers at the Spa while competing primarily out of the stable of leading trainer Melissa Beckwith.
Hennessey put the race’s 1-5 favourite on the front end early in the mile in the $6,315 contest for pacing mares and, after opening up a big lead, held on to prevail in 1:54.3. It was the sixth consecutive victory for Mademoiselle Paris and her 11th at the Spa in ’16.
Mademoiselle Paris' stablemate Bye Bye Michelle (by Stonebridge Regal) was a resounding winner in Friday’s $8,000 feature as she recorded a seven-plus length win with Hennessey in the bike. The Hall of Fame reinsman piled up five wins on the Friday card.
Live racing continues at Saratoga on Saturday night with the track's biggest night of the year. The $260,000 Joe Gerrity Jr. Memorial Pace will highlight a big night of racing. Wiggle It Jiggleit leads a star-studded group of pacers who will slug it out in the eighth annual Gerrity. New York Sire Stakes action will also be featured along with three Opens, each going for a purse of $25,000. First post time on Saturday is set for 7:05 p.m.
