Preferred Repeat For Platoon Seelster
It was a round trip to victory lane for Platoon Seelster and driver Ryan Holliday in Tuesday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 Trot at Georgian Downs.
The OSS graduate, who stormed to a 1:55 in the class two weeks ago, skipped last week before posting a one-length triumph in Tuesday’s featured race.
Holliday got away third with Platoon Seelster, but he put him in motion shortly past the quarter pole. He brushed to the top without much of a tussle, and once he got there he posted middle splits of :57.1 and 1:27.3. He fired home in :28.4 to win by a length over Big Rich in 1:56.2. Delcrest Massy was third.
David Holliday trains the four-year-old son of Federal Flex-Personal Hanover for owners Caroline Holliday of Mount Forest and Dennis Hannath of Harriston, Ont. The eight-time winner has racked up five of those wins this season. He’s already potted in excess of $50,000 this season and more than $294,000 to date.
Severus Hanover pulled off a 10-1 upset thanks to his comfortable score in the $7,500 Preferred 3 Trot. Bob McClure treated him to a ground-saving trip for the first half before asking the gelding to go first-over on the way to the three-quarter pole. The trotter than scooted home in :29.3 to post the win by 1-3/4 lengths over the dead-heating tandem of Covert Operative and Utopia in 1:56.4.
David Frey trains the five-year-old son of Explosive Matter-Sorbet Hanover for 373818 Ontario Ltd of Maple, Ont. It was the first win of the 2016 campaign for the nine-time winner who upped his earnings to $82,491 with the victory.
