Racing's Friends Enjoy Night At Hanover
It was a perfect night weather wise for Bring A Friend Day and 25 people did that at Hanover Raceway on Saturday, July 16. The hosts and their friends were eligible to win prizes from Hanover Raceway, Molson and Standardbred Canada.
Laura Moore of Harriston and Steward Rowley of Listowel won prizes, while Diane Stephens and Kim McComb of Chatsworth got to ride in the starting car, and Ally and Scott Cargoe of Orillia got to get their picture taken in the winner's circle.
On the track, leading driver Brad Forward continued his dominance with four more wins on the night. Forward won race two with SWS Caviar for owner Jeff Williamson of Blyth in 1:58.3 and then won race six with CC Callme Kelly for owner Steve Morton of Nova Scotia in 1:59.4. Forward’s third win was in race sevem with Outasight Hanover in 2:02.1 for owners Tess Mauro of Ridgeville and Steve Mihalic of Burlington, and capped the Grand Slam in the 10th with Win One Soon for owner Ron Ash of Desboro in 1:57.2.
The Newfoundland native now has 19 wins on the season at Hanover, 12 more than Clarke Steacy and Bruce Richardson, who are tied for second with seven wins each.
Newcomer Natasha Day of Australia picked up another win, giving her five on the season, tied for fourth overall.
Hanover’s biggest race of the season begins next week as the Dream of Glory eliminations take place. Sixty-six horses are eligible, and those who are ready will battle for a shot at the July 30 final. It's also the last opportunity for fans to try and qualify for the Survivor Contest. Three more qualified on Saturday, bringing the total so far to 46. Post time next Saturday is 7:15 p.m.
