Former Horse Racing New Brunswick executive director Roberta Nixon has cited “personal reasons” for resigning her position with the province’s racing operator.

News of Nixon’s resignation has come via an article by the CBC that explains that the executive submitted her resignation on June 12, which became effective this past week.

The CBC piece states that Kathy McLean has ‘taken the reins’ of HRNB, but that she was not fielding calls from reporters as of press time.

It has been a tough year for HRNB to this point, as the organization has been involved in an ongoing dispute with the Fredericton Exhibition. Additionally, HRNB has been dealt blows in its effort to get a building rezoned for the purpose of establishing a restaurant/off-track wagering location that would also be able to serve alcohol.

Fredericton councilors are expected to vote on the rezoning amendment this evening (Monday, July 11).
