Howlett, Williams Sweep Lady Crocus
Favoured fillies Garde Hebert and Cordees Whitesocks delivered for their backers and connections in Saturday's two $6,600 divisions of the Lady Crocus Stakes at the Glenboro Fair in Manitoba.
The stakes event is co-sponsored by Standardbred Canada and the Manitoba Standardbred Sires & Breeders Association.
Garde Hebert made every call a winning one in the first Lady Crocus division. A recent purchase by Michael and trainer Trevor Williams, Garde Hebert and driver Don Howlett carved out fractions of :30.3, 1:01.3 and 1:33.3 before coming home comfortably in :31.3 to trip the timer in 2:05.1. The win margin was more than seven lengths over My Bliss (Don Anness), who recovered from an early miscue to finish second over Cordees Fantasy (Cory Manning).
Garde Hebert (Mach Three - Signature Semula) is now 2-for-2 since being purchased by the Williams in June.
Howlett and The Williams came back in the very next race to sweep the Lady Crocus splits. Another wire-to-wire performance spelled out the winning formula for Cordees Whitesocks, under the wire in 2:12.3 and two lengths better than Trishas Fancy (Kirk Rogers). Heartland Spark (Marc Fillion) completed the triactor.
Cordees Whitesocks (Armbro Baylor - Andrea Cole Lynn) has never trailed a race in her short career, with two wins and every fraction charted with her listed as first.
