Groom Stricken By Fire Needs Help

Anyone that has spent any time around the harness racing industry knows all too well that grooms are the unsung heroes of the industry. They typically go above and beyond with little – but usually no – fanfare. Trot Insider has learned that there is a groom in serious need right now, and she needs some good karma to come her way.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for groom Cassandra Morrissey, who recently lost her belongings due to a fire.

Morrissey is a single mother of three children, the youngest of which is a three-week-old infant.

Morrissey received burns to her leg and is in hospital with skin grafts.

She is a groom for Jim Watt (Jeffrey Williamson) out of Clinton Raceway. Morrissey will not be able to work for a while and is supporting herself and her three children.

“I am of no relation to her, (but) I am a horsewoman who cares about the young children and Cassandra herself,” Shelley Kerr told Trot Insider. “I always see her at the track working hard and was hoping to help her out with our amazing horse industry.”

Please give what you can. Similar thing happened to me many years ago. We never had Go fund me or the internet at all. I remember the panic of wondering where I was going to get money for my daughter. Cassandra get well soon.

Fellow horsemen

I challenge everyone to give $20, it would add up to a huge amount. I have never met Cassandra but grooms are the backbone of this industry.
