Classic Series Finals Drawn
Along with the highly anticipated Burlington Stakes for three-year-old pacers, Mohawk Racetrack will host the $1.4 million finals of The Classic Series
Saturday night at the Campbellville, Ont. oval.
The Burlington Splits have been carded as Races 4, 5, 8 and 11. The Classic Series finals have been slotted as Races 2, 3, 6 and 9. An eight-horse Open pace has also been carded as Race 10.
The $353,710 Trotting Classic, carded as Race 2, will feature a seven-horse field. Parading out of the stable of trainer Darren McCall, Corleone Kosmos (PP5, J. Campbell) will return to defend his 2008 TCS title and is set to face his frequent rival, the two-time O'Brien Award winner Arch Madness (PP3, D. Miller), representing the Trond Smedshammer barn. Chick N Tell (PP6, M. Saftic) upset the top pair in last week’s third preliminary leg and is back for another go in the rich final.
A field of eight mares will comprise the $353,710 Classic Oaks, slated as Race 3. Trond Smedshammer student Falls For You (PP2, M. MacDonald) has captured two Oaks legs this year and is set to leave from an advantageous starting spot. Classic Lane (PP3, S. Condren) will be looking to followup on a victory last weekend over the Campbellville course. The field also features Lavec Dream (PP4, L. Ouellette), Spice Queen (PP7, P. MacDonell) and Stage Show (PP8, T. Ritchie) among others.
The $353,710 Classic Distaff, set to go off as Race 6, will feature an extremely impressive assortment of talent, as the continent's top aged pacing lasses will be thrilling the Mohawk faithful. O'Brien Award winner Darlins Delight (PP1, Y. Gingras) will match up with Tug River Princess (PP4, J. Campbell), Southwind Tempo (PP6, J. Jamieson) and many others, including Arts Diva (PP2, P. MacDonell), A And Gs Confusion (PP3, D. Miller), Hana Hanover (PP5, Ra. Waples) and Michelles Power (PP7, R. Pierce).
The $353,710 Pacing Classic, carded as Race 9, will be the last of TCS finals. Gord Irwin's Bigtime Ball (PP9, P. MacDonell) will have to overcome the outside post position if she wishes to walk away with all the marbles.
