Upsets In PEI Open Trots
On a Thursday night trot at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park that featured five trot races it was gelding Frill Seeker and mare Osprey Impact taking their respective Open Trot classes.
Frill Seeker in rein to Kenny Arsenault dominated the horses and gelding open trot, taking over control off of the gate, after heavy favourite Freddie made a break, Frill Seeker laid down all the numbers just missing the horses and geldings track record, with a 1:58.3 victory for the Ebbsfleet Stables.
Walter Cheverie and Osprey Impact used a perfect pocket ride behind fraction setter Paymenowpaymelater to take the Open Mares trot in 1:59.4 for owner and trainer Paul Larrabee. It was her first win in only her second start of the season.
The other trot winners were Howmac Gypsy (Jack Panting), I Aint No Lady (Corey MacPherson) and Majian Chester (James Ripley)
Bazillion entered at a $10,000 claiming price was able to price up his seven rivals in the Thursday feature. Owned by Kent Livingston and trained by Trevor Hicken the six-year-old son of Village Jolt and pilot Brian Macphee used rail control to lay down all the fractions for a 1:57.1 score.
In the evening’s fifth race there was an accident just past the half involving Canadian Rocket (Mark Cullen) and Bumpbsandbruises (Darrell Neill). Both drivers and horses walked away from the accident.
