Red Shores’ Holiday Weekend All Set

Red Shores is all set to ring in the holiday weekend, as both Summerside Raceway and the Charlottetown Driving Park are set to thrill fans with programs of live racing.

Summerside To Ring In Canada Day

The annual Canada Day program (Friday, July 1) at Red Shores’ Summerside Raceway will offer 14 dashes. The card will get underway at 1 p.m. and will feature the always-entertaining Canada Day Pace.

The afternoon’s top class will line up for Race 13. The outside Post 6 starter Machinthesand will look to make it back-to-back victories in the program’s feature event.

In his last start, Machinthesand turned his Post 1 start into a pocket ride through the fractions. The seven-year-old Mach Three gelding then delivered in deep stretch for owners Noonan Holdings LTD and Russell and Karen Noonan. The 1:57.2 win was capped off with a :28.4 closing quarter. The effort proved to be a mark-lowering effort for the Hughie Murphy trainee. Ken Murphy will handle the driving duties Friday.

Last week’s runner-up finisher, Motorino, has drawn Post 4. Terry Gallant trains, drives and co-owns Motorino with Eric Johnston. The field is rounded out by Rash B Havior, Spirit Of America, Casimir Luciano and DBs Rosco.

The ‘back-up, non-winners of $1,251’ has been carded as Race 14 and will close out the afternoon program. Athletic Putnam has been installed as the morning line favourite for owners Paul Biggar and Donald Callbeck. Dale Spence has picked up the driving assignment.

Forever Paradise Gets Top Call In Charlottetown Feature

A pair of Cecil Ladner Memorial starters will square off in the $2,300 Preferred 1 (Race 7) Saturday at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.

Forever Paradise will pick up the catch driving services of Gilles Barrieau this week. Forever Paradise has drawn Post 5 and has been listed as the morning line favourite. Forever Paradise is owned by Reg MacPherson and David and Aaron MacKenzie and is trained by Kevin MacLean.

Doing Some Damage, who is a newcomer to the Island racing scene, has drawn Post 4 in the compact field of five for owner Kent Livingston. Doing Some Damage has won 38 career races. He is heading in to the Saturday dash off of a fifth-place finish in the Ladner. Doing Some Damage will team up with driver Corey MacPherson for trainer Trevor Hicken.

The field is rounded out by My Lucky Killean (to be driven by Ken Murphy), Jeb (Jason Hughes) and Fightmaster (Mike McGuigan).

Six of the region’s best mares will face-off in Race 9. Ramblinglily has drawn the outside Post 6 and has been installed as the morning line favourite. Best Risque will start from Post 5. Last week’s Open Mares winner, Shadows Mystery, is absent from competition this week.

The 12-dash card will get underway at 6 p.m.
