Palm Patrol Delivers At Georgian
Palm Patrol delivered on her pari-mutuel promise with a dominant front-end effort in the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap Pace featured at Georgian Downs on Saturday night (June 25).
After giving way to A Plus late in last week's Preferred 2 match-up, Palm Patrol lasted on the lead this time out while her outside rival followed two and a half lengths behind.
Firing off the gate from post six, odds-on favourite Palm Patrol cleared insider Back Yard Baby through a :26.4 first quarter and proceeded to carve out panels of :55.3 and 1:24.2 en route to the 1:52.3 victory. A Plus tipped out from third during the third panel and chased the winner home in second-place while Mea Lilley Mark came on to finish third ahead of Back Yard Baby.
Palm Patrol paid $4.20 to win. The seven-year-old Mach Three mare has now won three of her last five starts for owner Stephen Klunowski of North York, Ont.
The win was the second on the card for driver Travis Henry and trainer Carmen Auciello, who also teamed up in the opener as Robert Burgess' debuting two-year-old Muscle Mass gelding Life Well Lived ($16.70) defeated three-year-old trotting foes in a two-minute mile.
