Freshman Fillies Impress At Mohawk
Pacing fillies of the two-year-old variety were in action Thursday evening at Mohawk Racetrack, with Action Majesty and Bettors Up winning their respective pari-mutuel debuts.
Action Majesty was treated to a ground-saving journey in her $14,000 assignment before blasting home in :26 to post a maiden-breaking win for Team McNair.
Kloof Street shot to the lead and laid down fractions of :29.1, :59.4 and 1:30.1 before the rookies went into sprint mode. Kloof Street drifted off the rail in the lane and that allowed Action Majesty to power from last to first in the six-filly affair. Kloof Street held on for second, with Thorne Seelster taking home third prize.
Doug McNair mapped out the winning trip for the Gregg McNair-trained daughter of Royal Mattjesty-Action Grin. Kenneth Sommer of Sheffield, OH bred and owns the youngster.
Bettors Up won her $14,000 assignment in 1:54.4 for driver James MacDonald and trainer Scott McEneny.
The filly got away last and stayed there through the first half of the six-horse affair. Lady Oxford, Sir Native, Guidette Hanover and Southwind Geo took turns on the lead through early fractions of :28.1 and :57, with Southwind Geo maintaining control of the tempo at the three-quarter pole in 1:27.1. Bettors Up was on the move while tracking cover around the final turn, and she fired home in :27 to win by three-quarters of a length over Sir Native. Franschoek took home the show dough.
The daughter of Bettors Delight-Fresh Idea, who was a $15,000 purchase from the 2015 Lexington Select Yearling Sale, is owned by Brad Grant, Michelle McEneny and Teresa Davidson.
