Faves Deliver In City Of London Sequel
The second leg of the City of London Series for colt and gelding pacers went postward in four divisions on Monday at Western Fair Raceway, and all four winners
were sent off the top choice of the betting public.
Driver Doug McNair and trainer Bill Budd teamed up to win the opening split with Casimir Inyurface, who front-stepped his way to a 1:58.2 victory over Montanez and All Out. It was the third win of the season in as many tries for the three-year-old son of Sir Luck-Adulation, who is owned by Casimir Stables, Samuel Taylor, Errol Platt and Jessica Sabourin. The four-time winner has banked $18,775 to date.
After a disappointing fifth-place finish in the opening leg of the series, Greystone Cash rebounded with a 1:57.3 score in the second division for trainer Bruce Goit, driver Anthony Haughan and owner Pat Ryan of London, Ontario. The three-year-old son of Million Dollar Cam-Speedy Helen closed from last to first en route to posting the one-length win over Dodgy Dealer. Machness finished third. The gelding is now 6-for-10 this season after going winless in his lone start as a rookie. He has banked $33,625 to date.
It was a coast-to-coast triumph for Seeyanthefunnys and driver Ross Battin, who toured the London, ON oval in a time of 1:57 in the third division. It was nearly three lengths back to runner-up Beechwood Tiger. Great Luck grabbed the show dough. The three-year-old son of Grinfromeartoear-Allamerican Motion, who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Bob Young, is owned by Alvin Storey, Not So Nice Stable, James Padgett and Beverley McGrath. The colt, who bumped his bankroll to $31,170 with the win, has put together a 3-2-0 record in his first five starts of the season.
After finishing second and tasting defeat for the first time in last week’s opening leg of the series, Lyons Horace bounced back for a 1:56.3 victory in gate-to-wire fashion in the fourth and final split for the duo of trainer Shawn Robinson and driver Mike Langdon. The three-year-old son of Astreos-Hey Girl, who is the full-brother to Astronomical (1:50 - $756,258), drew off to win by more than 11 lengths for owner Joseph Lyons Mound of Burford, ON. St Lads Adonis was second best while No Huddle rounded out the top three.
The $40,000 (added) final of the City of London Series is scheduled for Friday, June 19 at Western Fair Raceway.
