Fillies Impress In Delaware Stakes
Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund three-year-old pacing fillies completed their second set of $20,000 elimination events Tuesday at Harrington Raceway.
The first division pitted familiar rivals in another compelling matchup, Use Your Noodle and Apple Bottom Jeans, who have finished 1-2 on four occasions this year, with Apple Bottom Jeans getting the win most recently on June 14.
Another terrific stretch duel ensued with Nanticoke Racing, Henry Farragalli III, Arthur Feeney and Trevor Johnson's Use Your Noodle ($5.20, Jim Morand) narrowly prevailing in a photo finish in 1:53.2. The Artzina-sired filly notched her seventh win in 21 career starts for trainer Les Givens.
Joseph Thomas' Mortgage Bags ($9, Eddie Dennis) upset the 1-to-5 favourite Eternal Ring in the second division, via a pocket trip behind the latter with a 1:56.4 triumph. Trained by her driver, the Roddys Bags Again filly registered her fifth career win. Eternal Ring was second, while Shes Brilliant was third.
Brian Malone's Hostess Lisa ($4.20, Tony Morgan) recorded her ninth win of the year in the overnight feature, the $15,000 Mares Open with a 1:53 score over Springforth and Purrfect Bags. It was one of three wins on the program for Morgan.
