Grand Slam For San Pail
The win streak is now four-in-a-row and counting for the white-hot San Pail, who barely broke a sweat
en route to posting a 1:55.2 victory in Monday’s $50,000 Open Trot at Mohawk Racetrack.
The five-year-old son of San Pellegrino-Village Beauty brushed to the lead at the quarter pole for driver Randy Waples, and that proved to be the winning move for the gelding who strolled through middle splits of :58.2 and 1:28.1 before sprinting home in :27.1. Photo Maxx was nearly three lengths back in second, and Sakic Seelster rounded out the top three.
Trainer Rod Hughes of Dunsford, ON shares ownership on the streaking square gaiter with co-owner/breeder Glenn Van Camp of Port Perry, ON. It was the seventh trip to victory lane in 14 starts this season for San Pail, who is now a 17-time winner in his career. The $25,000 payday bumped this year’s bankroll to $221,000 and it lifted his lifetime total to $545,715.
