A Plus Victorious In Georgian Debut
A Plus stormed home off a three-hole trip to take the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap Pace featured on Saturday night's (June 18) card of harness racing at Georgian Downs.
After giving way to outside leavers Palm Patrol and Lucky Cocktail in a contested opening quarter, the Georgian Downs-debuting A Plus out-sprinted those rivals in the stretch to score the 1:53.4 victory with Scott Young driving her for the first time. Palm Patrol finished second after crossing to the lead from the outside post five over 4-5 favourite Lucky Cocktail and A Plus during the :26.4 opening panel and leading through middle splits of :56.2 and 1:25.2. Lucky Cocktail held on for third over Ninette B while first over Camps Bay faded in the stretch.
A Plus paid $11.40 to win as the 9-2 third choice on the toteboard. Trained by Ben Wallace, the daughter of American Ideal and Has An Attitude now has four wins from 17 starts and earnings of $55,195 in her four-year-old season for owner Brad Grant of Milton, Ont.
In her first start off the WEG circuit, three-year-old pacing filly Shes Lights Out ($8.10) went from last to first in the $7,500 Preferred 3 and nosed out Russian Kisses in 1:55.2 with Doug Brown catch-driving for trainer Ken Sucee. The homebred daughter of Somebeachsomewhere out of Arts Diva is owned by Brian Legge of Toronto and Dr. David Legge of Ajax, Ont.
