Dreamfair Vogel Passes
Trot Insider has learned that former Ontario Sires Stakes standout and multiple stakes winner Dreamfair Vogel has passed away at the age of 17.
A son of Village Jiffy and Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee J Cs Nathalie, Dreamfair Vogel won 19 races and banked more than $1.17-million in his 70-race career. Major stakes wins include the Battle of Waterloo (2001), Canadian Breeders Championship (2002), Provincial Cup (2002), the Willowdale (2003) as well as three OSS Gold Finals at two and three. He competed against and defeated the likes of Art Major, McArdle, Royal Mattjesty, Three Olives and Allamerican Ingot during his six seasons on the racetrack. He retired as the second fastest and second richest foal of both his sire (behind Tigerama) and his dam (behind Dreamfair Eternal).
Ingersoll, Ont.'s John Lamers, who bred and owned the horse with his wife Mary during his North American racing career, noted that Dreamfair Vogel was a horse that loved to win and hated to lose. He fondly recalls how the pacer would stand in the winner's circle, basking in the glory of having his picture taken. But if he lost, he'd kick his stall walls after the race like a sign of frustration.
Lamers spoke highly of Dreamfair Vogel, as he was truly the Lamers' first horse with that level of success. The win he remembers the most is his 2001 Battle Of Waterloo win at Elmira Raceway.
After limited stallion duty in North America, Lamers sold the stallion to Scotland's Steve & John Gilvear. Lamers told Trot Insider that Dreamfair Vogel was standing stud with much success. He was told the stallion was running in the pasture when he abruptly stopped and dropped, possibly suffering a heart attack.
Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Dreamfair Vogel.
RIP to this wonderful horse.
