Sophomores Sharp In Delaware Divisions
Three $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund divisions for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings were contested Monday at Harrington Raceway.
Owner/trainer Charles Perry Jr.'s Johns Dream ($2.40, Ross Wolfenden) won the first division in dominating fashion in 1:55.3. The Dream Away ridgling assumed command early and never relented in his open length win over Double Miles and Cut The Beach.
Don Marine's Power To Perform ($5, Tony Morgan) cruised to a front-end win in the second division in 1:55.3. The Artzina colt never had an anxious moment in his two-length score over Hail To The Master and All Artist. Trained by Kyle Moore, it was the fourth career win for the winner.
The third division was the fastest as Henry Faragalli, Nanticoke Racing and Bay Pond Racing's Next Success ($3.40, Jim Morand) was triumphant in 1:53.1.
Next Success, the 3-5 favourite and Dover Downs $100,000 final winner, marched through the mile on the lead the majority of the way and held off JW Renegade to the wire in a tight finish. Casino Bags Anso was third.
In the $16,000 overnight feature, the Open Pace, the track record for aged pacing stallions was equaled by David Banks and Layfield Horses' Getitoffyourchest ($4, Ross Wolfenden), as he remained sharp with a 1:50.3 score for trainer Richard Lewis.
The six-year-old Tell All stallion assumed command near the half-mile from Smart Rokker and paced away powerfully in the stretch. Smart Rokker finished second while Papa Ray was third. It was the fifth win of the year for Getitoffyourchest.
Getitoffyourchest now shares the record with Dancin Yankee, who set the mark in 2014.
