Hoosier Invitational To Fearless Diablo
Fearless Diablo, with Trace Tetrick at the lines, made amends for last week’s second-place finish and rolled home a winner in the featured event, a $21,000 Invitational Pace, at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Saturday, June 11.
The Dylan Davis trainee stopped the timer in 1:49.4 to establish a seasonal-best mark and equal the fastest mile of the 2016 season through the first 50 nights of racing at Hoosier Park.
Leaving from post four, Fearless Diablo left just enough to grab a pocket seat while Ontario Success and Ricky Macomber Jr. carved out first half fractions of :26.4 and :56. Nitro and John DeLong were content to sit along the rail in third while Shooters Dream and Tyler Smith were next in line fourth.
Shooters Dream was the first to commit from the outer flow with K-Lees Shakenbake and Jason Dillander in tow as the field approached the third station in 1:23.1.
As the field turned for home, Ontario Success continued to call the shots, but Fearless Diablo loomed large in the pocket. Tetrick found late racing room up the passing lane and Fearless Diablo did the rest. Using a :26.1 closing quarter, Fearless Diablo coasted to the wire to finish nearly two lengths in front of a hard-closing Nitro. Ontario Success held on nicely to round out the trifecta.
As the heavy betting favourite, Fearless Diablo returned $3.60 at the betting windows.
Owned by Michael Casalino and Dylan Davis, the eight-year-old horse has now amassed $304,755 lifetime. The victory marked his 27th lifetime win and fourth seasonal win from eight starts.
The win was also one of three on the 13-race card for Hoosier Park’s leading driver Trace Tetrick.
