In just a few weeks, driver Philip Giesbrecht will be fulfilling a lifelong dream by competing in the Western Regional Driving Championship for the first time.

The 27-year-old Alberta-based reinsman discussed the upcoming regional event in an episode of Century Downs Racetrack and Casino's Down To The Wire, hosted by Tim Lawson.

During the interview, Giesbrecht said that his number one goal for the June 26 competition is to prove himself while competing with the best drivers around.

"If I did make it to the National Championship that would be awesome," laughed Giesbrecht, who will need to be one of the top two point-earners in the eight-race regional competition to advance to the nationals on Friday, October 14 at The Raceway at Western Fair District in London, Ont. "It would be a lot of fun to go back to Ontario because I did race there before, especially in London."

Giesbrecht also discussed the advantages of the competition being held at his home track as this is the first time Alberta will host a regional event, as well as how he plans to prepare for the big day.

The Western Regional Driving Championship will take place on Sunday, June 26 at Century Downs with Alberta represented by Giesbrecht, Travis Cullen, Mike Hennessy and Dave Kelly. They will also be joined by British Columbia reinsmen Brandon Campbell, Paul Davies and Jim Marino, as well as driver Don Howlett from Manitoba.
