Dead-Heat In Flamboro Finale
The final race of the meet at Flamboro Downs ended in a dead-heat with Single White Sock ($3.70) and Intended Royalty ($7.70) inseparable winners of the $9,000 Preferred 3 Pace on Sunday night (May 29).
Single White Sock and driver James MacDonald took the lead from the inside post when Intended Royalty made an early miscue leaving the gate from post four. Single White Sock then led the nine-horse field through fractions of :28.2, :57.4 and 1:26.4 while Intended Royalty quickly regrouped for Robert Shepherd and pursued first over. Those two raced head-to-head for the final quarter-mile and ultimately crossed the finish line in tandem to share the 1:56.4 victory. There was also a photo finish for third-place, but They Call Me Gordy edged out the rest of the competition for that honour.
Single White Sock is a four-year-old gelded son of Badlands Hanover, who races from the Ted MacDonnell stable for owner Leonard Gamble. He shipped in off the WEG circuit to score his first win of the year in 18 races. Gregory Weatherbee trains Intended Royalty, a five-year-old No Pan Intended gelding invading from Western Fair Raceway's Preferred 3 ranks, for Tammy Johnston and David Brigham. The win was his second from 19 seasonal starts.
Earlier in the evening's $11,000 Preferred 2 Trot, Bambino Hall ($6.90) followed in fourth-place before kicking home in a :28.4 final quarter to track down race leader Spartan Victory (:29.1, 1:00.1, 1:29.1) and first over challenger Kennel Buddy for the half-length victory in 1:58.3. Lexis D J closed in the passing lane to finish a close fourth while Noble Power rounded out the field that had two scratches, finishing 12 lengths in arrears. Jason Ryan trains and drives the eight-year-old Tom Ridge gelding, who has won back-to-back starts at Flamboro for owner Jeffrey Potok.
Winkys Pride ($2.80) wired the field in a $7,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Trot, scoring in 1:59 flat for driver Bob McClure and owner/breeder Robert Hummel. Meadowview Vicky advanced first over in the third panel and finished second, one and a half lengths behind the winning chestnut Amigo Hall mare, with Lady Dynamite following in third. Winkys Pride, who was a runner-up in her last two Preferred 3 outings, notched her 35th career win.
In other action, Duncan Brewer's Coca Jo ($15.10) completed a sweep of the Alliance Spring Series for $12,000 claiming filly and mare trotters. Driven by Scott Young, the four-year-old Jailhouse Jesse mare took a new career mark of 1:59.4 in Sunday's $13,600 series final, holding off Holiday Holly by three-quarters of a length in a two-horse breakaway. Third-place honours went to Wild Reputation, who finished over 11 lengths behind.
