Mohawk's Jackpot Nearing $350K
Multiple winning tickets were purchased for Mohawk Racetrack's Jackpot Hi 5 wager on Friday night (May 27), and as a result, the carryover climbed to nearly $350,000.
Sent postward at odds of 9-1, Stephen Klunowski's pacing mare Palm Patrol pulled off the mild upset in Friday's finale as she held off 9-5 favourite Wildcat Beauty, who was last at the half and weaved through horses in the stretch to finish three-quarters of a length behind in second. Palm Patrol earned her first win of the year in a career-best clocking of 1:51.1 with Jonathan Drury in the sulky for trainer Carmen Auciello. Brookdale Shadow (4-1) and Amazing Control (10-1) followed in third and fourth while Taboo Seelster (49-1) finished fifth.
The Jackpot Hi 5 winning combination of 8-10-6-3-9 paid $10,661.65 for a $1-based bet.
The wager's jackpot, which pays out only when there is a single winning ticket, now stands at $346,410 heading into Saturday's card.
