Quebec Champion Returns Sunday

Two-time Quebec-Bred Series champion, Atomic Million AM, heads the 10th race feature pace at the Hippodrome 3R on Sunday (May 15).

Now age five, Atomic Million AM is not off to the best of starts in 2016. The gelded son of Million Dollar Cam, a career winner of $202,000, is winless after five starts between Mohawk Racetrack and Rideau Carlton Raceway.

Trainer Alain Martin confided that things are not so easy this year for his star pacer. He has earned just $2,349 with a second and a third-place finish. He was race timed in 1:52.4 in his last start at Mohawk, finishing ninth and was never a factor in the race.

Martin is hopeful that the switch in venue to the Hippodrome 3R and maybe some easier competition will wake the horse up as the Quebec-Bred Series for four and five-year-olds begins next week.

Atomic Million AM drew barrier three for Sunday’s 10th race and is listed as the 5-2 morning line favourite.

At the Hippodrome 3R, Atomic Million AM has always done well. Last year in June, he set the track record for four-year-old geldings with a speedy 1:52.3. At age three, he won the Quebec-Bred Series Championship for driver Sylvain Lacaille with a 1:54 triumph.

Perhaps the return to 3R will bring back his winning stride Sunday as Atomic Million AM faces a stellar field that includes return winner Hawaiian Drummond (post five), D J Power (post one) and Lutetia Semalu (post seven).
