Standardbred Gets Loose In The City

All things considered, it is nothing to write home about when a Standardbred gets loose. The outrider usually tracks down the culprit and order is quickly restored. But when the horse is in the middle of the city and has a sulky attached to its rigging, that is definitely newsworthy.

As a few articles out of Nova Scotia explain, a driverless Standardbred that was pulling a sulky was spotted on the Queen Street bridge in Truro at roughly 6 p.m. last night (Wednesday, May 4).

Local authorities were contacted about the situation, which came to an end when the horse ended up in the Stansfield ball field on Queen Street.

One of the articles regarding the situation has cited police as saying that the horse had gotten away from its handlers at Truro Raceway.

"It came from Bible Hill, across the bridge into Truro and ended up in the ballfield area. That's where the owner managed to get a hold of it," Truro Police Insp. Rob Hearn was quoted as saying.

"There were no injuries that we know of to anybody — animal or people."

Trot Insider that the horse in question is Neigh Monster, an eight-year-old son of Force Of Life that is owned by Chantel Gillis, William Ellis and Fredrick Buffett. The black gelding has raced 144 times in his career and has banked over $30,000. He has won 27 career races, finished second on 16 occasions and notched 18 thirds.
