Heres The Magic Triumphs In Rideau Trot
Heres The Magic turned the tables on defending champion Raising Richard to win this week's $6,500 Winners Over Handicap Trot on Sunday, May 1 at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
After missing by just a nose to Raising Richard in their last outing one week ago, Heres The Magic reversed the order of finish this time out with a confident wire-to-wire effort.
Two-time Sunday winner Gord Brown sent Heres The Magic to the lead from post four and carved out fractions of :28.3, :59.3 and 1:29 en route to the two and a half length victory in 1:58.1 over the 'good' track. Raising Richard (Rheo Filon), the slight favourite after a last-to-first trip last Sunday, was third over in fifth-place turning for home and came on for the runner-up honours. Rocky Boy (Stephane Lareau) rode the pocket for third.
Heres The Magic is owned by trainer Blake Curran and Jason Jamieson of Perth, Ont. He has now won four of his 11 starts this year for earnings of $18,526. Sunday's win was the 22nd lifetime for the seven-year-old Kadabra gelding and increased his bankroll to $374,266.
Heres The Magic paid $5.50 to win.
In other action, Gerard Demers added to his local leading win total with a training triple on the 10-race card. Guy Gagnon drove the winning Demers trainees Likeavirgin ($14.20), Slight Touch ($4.50) and Rave On ($3.80).
