Flamboro Feature To Duncs Diamond
Duncs Diamond survived a first-over trip en route to capturing Saturday’s $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 at Flamboro Downs.
With Scott Young in the race bike, Duncs Diamond tucked into an early three-hole while Pictonian Sareta motored to the lead and served up an opening quarter clocked in :28.3. She was still the leader at the mid-way point in :58.3, but race favourite Duncs Diamond was in attack mode.
Those two battled to the three-quarter pole in 1:27.3 before Duncs Diamond edged away in deep stretch. She used a :29.3 closing panel to win by a half-length margin over Topanga Canyon in 1:57.2. Nadia Can Go was third.
Bernard Wills trains the six-year-old daughter of Cam Dunc-Kash Her In for owner Brian Lamarche of Markham, Ont. The victory was her second of the season and the eighth of her career. The $5,000 payday bumped her bankroll to $47,698.
