Delaware Owners Seminar In May

The Delaware Standardbred Owners Association will offer a free introductory seminar for those considering first-time ownership of a Standardbred race horse on Saturday, May 21 at the Harrington Raceway.

The seminar, which will run from 1-4 p.m., will cover horse racing basics, the rewards and financial obligations of horse ownership and the various ways to get started owning a horse.

Attendees will not only learn the basics of horse ownership, but will also have an opportunity to meet some of the horses, nationally renowned trainers, and drivers currently racing at Harrington. The program will include a presentation by owner-trainer and DSOA Director George Teague, recently voted Owner of the Year by U.S. Harness Writers Association (USHWA), involving forms of ownership, the owner/trainer relationship and Teague’s experience campaigning horses like Rainbow Blue and Wiggle It Jiggleit, both winners of Horse of the Year recognition. Participants will also hear from leading trainer/driver George Dennis and Post Time TV show award-winning hostess, Heather Vitale. There will be a tour of the racing backside and stabling area at Harrington Raceway and Training Center.

The educational event will begin at 1 p.m. on May 21, and will be held in the Harrington Raceway board room; light refreshments will be served.
