E L Rock Prevails In Preferred
Nick Steward treated E L Rock to a two-hole trip in Tuesday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 for trotters at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and that went a long way in helping the veteran secure a 1:58.2 victory in the featured affair.
Leaving from the rail, E L Rock dropped into the pocket spot behind Thundering Ovation. That mare hammered out panels of :28, :58.3 and 1:27.4, but after feeling first-over pressure in the final half from Delcrest Massy she wasn’t able to fend off the tripped-out E L Rock. The gelding roared out of the pocket and fired home in :30.1 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Thundering Ovation. Meadowview Vicky swept from last to grab the show dough in the six-horse tilt.
Trainer Britt Kennedy co-owns the eight-year-old son of Yankee Glide-Courtney Hall with Karry Howard of Wardsville and Jason Bedell of Morpeth, Ont. The partners watched him rack up his second win of the season and the 18th of his career. He’s stashed away close to $18,000 this year and more than $346,000 to date.
Summit City Nate sped to a 1:58 decision later on the card in the $7,500 Preferred 3 for trotters. Alfie Carroll had the odds-on favourite on the move at the quarter pole, and in a matter of strides he worked his way to the position of command. Summit City led the group through middle splits of :58.3 and 1:27.3 before cruising home in :30.2 to win by six lengths over Lady Dynamite. Third prize went to Me The Boss.
It was the first win of the season for the Victor Puddy pupil, who is owned by Keith Cassell, Dr. John Tobin and Limco Inc. The 10-time winner now boasts a career bankroll that stands at $108,942.
