Gaming Parlour Starting To Roll
The Red Mile’s chief financial officer, Shannon Cobb, has commented on the success of the ‘instant racing’ terminals that became operational at the Kentucky track roughly six months ago.
In an article by the Lexington Herald-Leader, Cobb stated that the track had purposely unveiled the simulcasting and gaming parlour in a somewhat subdued fashion.
“We opened sort of quietly without a lot of fanfare in September to make sure we had our ducks in a row operationally. So the start-up was a little slow,” Cobb was quoted as saying.
She explained that a marketing campaign was then developed with Oaklawn Park, and the collaboration led to positive momentum since last November. Cobb was quoted as saying that ‘the ramp-up’ in business since the collaboration “has been steady.” The article characterizes Oaklawn as the founders of instant racing.
The article relates that the historical-racing aspect of the gaming parlour – which is a joint venture between the Red Mile and Keeneland – is expected to handle roughly $35 million a month by the end of 2016.
The gaming parlour also features simulcasting, that, according to Keeneland Vice President Vince Gabbert, has been successful.
Gabbert was quoted as saying that simulcasting handle “has gone up a tick” and that Keeneland has been “very pleased with consolidation of the product.”
