'Yank' Wins As He Pleases
A field of six 'Winner's Over $25,000 lifetime' trotters lined up for Thursday afternoon’s $25,000 featured event at Harrah's Philadelphia, and the betting public was all over the Ron Burke-trained DWs NY Yank.
The seven-year-old gelded son of Dilbert Hanover, who was coming off of a tough trip from post 7 at Yonkers, quickly settled into the pocket behind Opulent Yankee (Andy Miller), by a quarter in :28 over a track labeled sloppy. They remained one-two past the three-quarter pole when DWs NY Yank (Yannick Gingras) vacated the pocket to challenge for the lead. They battled down the stretch, with the favourite edging clear to win by a length in 1:54.4 for his first win of the season. War Cry Hall (Tim Tetrick) finished third.
Owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and Howard Taylor, DWs NY Yank is now just over $15,000 shy of $1 million in career earnings. He paid $5.20.
