Comes Home First Delivers In Open
Comes Home First lived up to his name and made it across the wire first in the $10,500 Open Pace featured on the Saturday (April 2) card of harness racing during Fraser Down's closing weekend.
The J J J Stables' five-year-old pacer Comes Home First came through the passing lane and prevailed off a three-hole trip in a season's best 1:53.3 clocking for trainer and driver Jim Marino. Beren Hanover (Allan Molloy) had maintained the lead through fractions of :27.2, :57.2 and 1:25.1 and finished half a length behind in second with his pesky pocket-pursuer, Now Playing (Serge Masse), third in a photo finish with Illwinifican (Dennis Johnston).
Comes Home First was the 4-5 favourite and paid $3.90 to win.
The son of Brandons Cowboy-Cinderella Cam ended a string of three consecutive runner-up placings in the Open class and notched his second win of the year. He has now earned $28,770 from 11 starts in 2016.
Fraser Downs' meet wraps up on Sunday with a 12-race card featuring the $75,000 Keith Linton Memorial for three-year-old pacing colts (Race 10). First race post time is 12:45 p.m.
