Undercover Bro Upsets Rideau Trotters
Undercover Bro edged past race leader Euro Classic in the passing lane for a 10-1 upset victory in the $6,650 Winners Over Handicap Trot featured on Easter Sunday (March 27) evening at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Driven by Stephane Lareau, Undercover Bro followed odds-on favourite Euro Classic through fractions of :28.4, :59.2 and 1:28.2 before closing along the pylons while Broadway Prince challenged first over. Undercover Bro defeated Euro Classic to the wire by a neck in 1:58 flat with Broadway Prince finishing less than a length back in third. Michelangelo rallied outside the top three to finish fourth, with What A Rush a distant fifth. Completing the field, Heres The Magic pulled up and did not finish after a break in stride before the fair start pole, prompting a pari-mutuel refund to his backers.
Undercover Bro, who had three prior third-place finishes in Rideau's top level trot this year, paid $23.20 to win as the second longest shot on the board.
The eight-year-old Classic Photo gelding is owned by trainer Richard Lareau and Stephane Legrand of St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Que.
He has now won 28 times in his career for earnings totalling $132,599.
Gerard Demers had a training triple during the 10-race card, which included a sweep of the early Daily Double with Terrorcam ($2.40), who continued her win streak off the claim (now at five in a row), and Ive Got It All ($14). Demers also won the fifth race with Terror Suspect ($2.80). Guy Gagnon drove all three of the winners.
