'Bugatti' Revs Up In Weaver Memorial
Celebrity Bugatti rolled to his second straight series victory in Tuesday’s third leg of the Ken Weaver Memorial Trot at The Meadows. Marty De Vie captured the other $15,000 third-leg split in the event for three and four-year-old colts, horses and geldings.
Celebrity Bugatti was away second for Dan Rawlings, but after a sluggish :29.4 opening quarter, Rawlings thought the point might be a better place for the four-year-old son of Muscle Massive-Dover Miss. Celebrity Bugatti had little trouble holding the lead, scoring in 1:58.2 over a “good” surface. Cantad Kid was second, with the first-over Explosive Leggs third.
Johnny Yoder trains Celebrity Bugatti and owns with Herman Hagerman and Rawlings.
In the $22,500 Filly & Mare Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot, Bessie rebounded from a pair of subpar efforts to triumph for Jim Pantaleano in 1:55.3 Princess Pablano raced well first over but fell a nose short, while early leader Cowgirl Hall saw her three-race winning streak snapped when she finished third.
Rick Clapper conditions the five-year-old daughter of Equinox Bi-Cantabs Chorine, who extended her career bankroll to $215,464, for Paula Clapper, Umholtz Racing Stable and Kennedy Sports Corp.
Aaron Merriman piloted three winners on the 15-race card.
