A fire chief has commended a ninth-grade student for the bravery she showed this past Thursday night (March 10) when she saved 19 of the 20 horses that were involved in a blaze that burnt a horse barn to the ground.

According to an article, 14-year-old Jordyn Phillips discovered the fire at roughly 11 p.m. and called 911.

The fire took place at the Pure Horse Play Equestrian Center and Resort, which is located in Carroll County, Georgia and is owned by Phillips’ family. The family's home also burnt to the ground because of the blaze.

“I had a one-track mind,” Phillips told WSB-TV Atlanta 2. “I was like I need to get all the animals out, and the lady on the phone was like, ‘No, you need to leave. You need to get out now.’ Well, if the fire hasn’t spread that far yet and I can still make it and get some of them out, I’m going to get my animals out.”

The horseback riding business had many rescue horses in its band. The horse that did not make it out was a rambunctious two-year-old named Rambo. One of the family’s dogs also perished in the blaze.

The article states that Carroll County Fire Chief Scott Blue has commending the ninth grader for her bravery.
