On Wednesday, March 9, two-time O’Brien Award winner Lady Shadow continued to prep for her 2016 season, as the Shadow Play lass dropped some serious time during the 10-race qualifying session at Dover Downs.

In rein to driver Allan Davis for trainer Josh Green, Lady Shadow lined up in Post 6 for the last dash on the morning docket.

Simply put, the career winner of 16 of 35 starts and $838,000 in purse earnings was much the best during the tilt. Lady Shadow made every pole a winning won and went on to stop the clock in a sharp 1:51.4.

The bay led by two and a half lengths at the quarter-mile pole (which was reached in 28 seconds), was ahead by three lengths at the half-mile marker (:56.1), and was on top by seven lengths by the time she breezed by the three-quarters of a mile pole (1:24).

Lady Shadow sealed the deal with a :27.4 final quarter and zipped home for a seven and a quarter-length victory in 1:51.4.

The Wednesday performance was Lady Shadow’s second charted mile of the 2016 racing season. She debuted last week during Dover qualifiers and romped in a gate-wire victory that saw her win by more than 17 lengths in 1:56.3. Thus, the O’Brien winner dropped almost five full seconds in her Wednesday win.

Lady Shadow, who was sold for $19,000 at a yearling sale in 2012, is now owned by David Kryway (of Amherstburg, Ont.), Carl Atley (Xenia, OH), Edwin Gold (Phoenixville, PA) and the BFJ Stable (Philadelphia, PA).
