Now That's A Blowout!

”If this was a fight, they’d stop it.”

That was a call doled out every now and then by the colourful and creative race announcer Larry Lederman during his days at Freehold Raceway and the now defunct Garden State Park.

It was a call saved for occasions in which a pacer or trotter blew away his/her foes. It was a call that certainly would have applied to Youre My Hero in Thursday’s eighth race at Woodbine Racetrack.

In rein to Trevor Henry, Youre My Hero shot to the lead from Post 7 and had seven foes chasing him and his reinsman past the quarter pole in :27. The gelding still had rivals within contention of him through middle splits of :55.4 and 1:24.3, but the final quarter was a different story. The pacer fired home in :27.3 and stopped the teletimer in 1:52.1. The margin of victory – a mere 16-3/4 lengths in the $10,000 claiming class for non-winners of $37,500 lifetime.

Trainer Mike Weller of Georgetown, Ont. co-owns the speedster with Cheri Watts of Anderson, IN. Sent off as the 2-5 favourite, the five-year-old son of Skydancer Hanover-You Make Me Smile won for the second time this season and for the seventh time in his career.
