Norman Keyes Passes

Longtime standardbred owner Norman Keyes passed away the morning of March 2 at the age of 86.

Keyes was the loving husband of Theresa (Lyons) for over 62 years. Dear father of Michael (Alice), Linda (Vic), David (Julie) and Thomas (Marina). Survived by his brother Donald (Val) and sister Margaret (John) of Ottawa, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Among the successful horses Keyes owned were Ralph Hanover, Huggie Hanover, F-Troop, Witsends Wizard, Hop Irish, Fancy A Dream and most recently, Brescia Seelster. He made many friends in the Standardbred business and thoroughly enjoyed conversing with all.

Keyes’ son David and daughter-in-law Julie are both active in the racing and breeding of Standardbreds and will carry on his name.

Visitation will take place on Friday, March 4, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Turner & Porter Funeral Home, 1981 Dundas St. West, Mississauga, Ont. Funeral Mass to be held Saturday, March 5, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 2300 Burnhamthorpe Rd. West., Mississauga, Ont. A reception will immediately follow the funeral service at St. Ignatius Loyola Church.

Got to know Norm in the "Ralph" days and as the mailman for sale catalogues. He was a tremendous owner and booster of harness racing, a wonderful guy to do business with. Our condolences to the family.
