Cullen Wins Five More At Century
Following a five-win performance to open the Century Downs meet last weekend, trainer Travis Cullen stole the show once again, winning all five races in which he had starters during the Saturday (Feb. 20) eight-dash program.
Cullen trainees won four races in a row, beginning in the second race with undefeated three-year-old filly L Dees Sunsetbeach ($2.10). Rocket Moma ($2.10), riding a five-race win streak, and Cowgirl Poker finished 1-2 for the Cullen stable in the following race and then Nobettorplacetobe ($15), driven by Cullen's father Ron, upset stablemate Counter Strike in his Alberta debut. Another Alberta newcomer, the four-year-old mare Florida-bred mare Gold Star Sonata ($3.90), gave Cullen the grand slam going from last to first in the final half-mile to break her maiden. Phoenician Gal ($7) and Cullen later prevailed from the pocket in the seventh race by a neck over American Passion after missing by a nose to that rival last time out.
With his Saturday successes, Cullen's stable has 12 wins in 21 starts and a 0.746 URS through the first three race dates of the new meet.
