Best Risque Continues Open Streak
Best Risque overcame her outside post assignment with a wide-sweeping move early on and she went on to win the $2,350 Mares Open Handicap Pace for the fourth week in a row at Red Shores at Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 16).
Leaving out wide from post seven, Best Risque worked her way to the lead, overtaking the pacesetting Whitesand Artist at the third quarter mark en route to the 2:00.3 triumph over the "good" track. Outrageous Spirit came on for second-place, finishing one length behind the winner, while Whitesand Artist followed in third.
Corey MacPherson has driven the nine-year-old daughter of Cammibest in each of her last four wins for her local connections. Trainer Brian Ladner shares ownership with Lillian and Kevin Ladner. The win was the mare's 48th lifetime and her earnings climbed to $213,232.
MacPherson made five trips to the winner's circle throughout the 13-race card. He also scored victories with Political Crisis for trainer Adam Merner, Ronnie Gass trainees Im A Debutant and Hurricane Hill, and 12-year-old pacer Idealic Life, who posted the fastest mile on the card with a 1:57 winning effort. The victory was the 12-year-old pacer's sixth in a row since joining the Trevor Hicken stable.
Hicken had winners in two races on the program while Gass completed a training triple by driving Smiley Bayama to victory in the finale.
