Ragazzo Dolce Streaks To Eighth Straight
Ragazzo Dolce continued his all winning record at Dover Downs this meet, notching his eighth straight, while I Like My Boss' win streak ended at five on a chilly Wednesday, Jan. 13.
Montrell Teague enjoyed a two-hole trip behind favourite I Like My Boss with Bluebird Reverend before pulling out at the top of the stretch to rush past for a 1:54.4 victory in the $21,000 Open Handicap Trot. Ragazzo Dolce, meanwhile, mastered the $15,000-$20,000 Claiming Handicap ranks with a 1:55.1 triumph.
In the feature race, George Dennis had to go three-wide from post eight with I Like My Boss before taking the early lead. After making a misstep at the start, Razor Ramone (Allan Davis) rallied and then on the backstretch led a charge at the leader. As the field turned toward the stretch, Teague took to the outside with Bluebird Revered, a Swan For All-Little Revenue gelding, the only four-year-old in the nine-horse field, and rolled by for the trotter's ninth win in 33 career starts. The Indian-bred has won $269,714 in earnings for trainer Bobby Reeser and co-owners Denise Dennis, John Johannsen and Holly Case. I Like My Boss finished second and Tirade Hanover (Vic Kirby) was third.
Jim Morand roared out of post eight in the finale with Ragazzo Dolce to secure the front and then never looked back en route to his second victory from the outside for trainer Dylan Davis and co-owner Mike Casalino Jr. The five-year-old altered son of Muscles Yankee-Bella Dolce won for the 15th time, good for career earnings of $125,405. Man Of Muscle (Jonathan Roberts) was second. Master Builder (Tetrick) was the show horse.
