Gerald ‘Jerry’ Robinson Passes

Trot Insider has learned that longtime horseman Gerald ‘Jerry’ Robinson, a longtime fixture on the racing scene in the Greater Toronto Area, has passed away.

Robinson passed away just after 12 noon on Wednesday, December 23 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre at the age of 67.

Robinson, who was a resident of Fraserville, Ont., was a leading horseman at Kawartha Downs since the inception of the track 43 years ago.

Kawartha's leading driver, Gord Brown, commented on Robinson's passing, stating, “I learned a lot from watching him. He was a hard worker and a real gentleman. Jerry was a fixture at Kawartha from Day One.”

One of Jerry’s best horses was the Gene Abbe gelding Sir Edward Pick. More recently, he was the driver of Galagher Seelster, a Mister Big gelding who gave him several trips to the winner’s circle over the past two seasons at Kawartha.

A leading driver at Kawartha for many years, Jerry had 2,112 victories with $3.2 million in purses.

He is survived by his daughter, Josie Robinson (and her partner, Jason Woodward); and his three grandchildren, Jacie, Joel and Joshua.

Friends may call at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Rd. (North of Parkhill), on Tuesday, December 29th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. If desired, condolences to the family, directions to the service, and donations to the Joshua Woodward Fund would be appreciated and may be made at AshburnhamFuneral.ca or by calling 705-740-0444.

Our condolences to Jerry's family. He drove for us many times from the early 80's. Was always so helpful when a piece of equipment was missing he went out of his way to find it for you. Will always be remembered at KD.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.

Jerry drove for us a few times but the most memorable was when we had brought Queens Arms home for some R&R and needed to re-qualify. Instead we entered her in the preferred at KD. She was dead favorite and I told Jerry to not show off. He won the race but after he was so excited , he said "I could have won by half the stretch". Jerry always thanked you for the drive. I will miss Jerry sitting at his barn and waving every time you entered KD.
Please accept our condolences.

Froggy as he was known to most of us was a class act. Over the years he put lots of meat and potatoes on our table. Rest in peace my friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Josie, Jason and Carol.
