‘Hot’ Trotters Invade Kawartha

A slew of trotters invaded Kawartha Downs on Saturday night to compete in a trio of Hot To Trot series

eliminations.

With Gord Brown in the bike, Abs Begonia notched his first career win in the first of three $8,000 eliminations for trainer Nicholas Boyd, who shares ownership with Kevin Skilton of Barrie, Philip Newfeld of Toronto, Ont. and Harvey Jaeger of Okotoks, Atla.

The four-year-old gelded son of Super Ben Joe, who was sent postward as the 2-1 favourite, sat fifth for most of the mile before powering home to win by a nose in 2:00.4 over Sa Grand Legacy (Tomas Dalborg) while Carsons Jazzman (Murray Samons) finished third.

Dropofthehammer rallied from off the pace to take the second elimination in a new mark of 2:00.1 for Nelson White, who handles the conditioning, and owners David White and Jared Overland of Rockwood, Ont.

A four-year-old son of Yankee Glide, Dropofthehammer and Brad Rae triumphed by three and three-quarter lengths over Patron Blue Chip (Mark Steacy) and Scotian Critic (Gord Brown).

The win was his second of the year and fourth of his career lifting his earnings to $23,885.

The final elim went to Broadway Goal, who also picked up his first lifetime victory for trainer/driver Per Henrikson and Asa Farm of Norwood, Ont.

The three-year-old Broadway colt, who was the 2-1 second choice, used off the pace tactics to win in 2:00.3 by one and three-quarter lengths over the pacesetter and fan favourite King Trut (Gord Brown). King Gus (Mark Steacy) rounded out the royal triactor.
