Dave 'Bubble' Wallis Passes

Longtime groom Dave 'Bubble' Wallis passed away on Saturday, Dec. 19 at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, Ont. following a very short battle with liver cancer. He was 53.

Wallis is survived by his partner Sheila 'She-She' Leahy and brothers Dale and Chuck.

Wallis travelled the Grand Circuit as a caretaker since his teenage years as harness racing was the love of his life. He worked for a few different trainers during his lifetime, including many years with Charalambos Christoforou, and most recently for the Tony O'Sullivan stable. Along with his passion for harness racing, Nascar and the NFL's Chicago Bears, Wallis was well known for his sense of humour and always had a joke to share. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to everyone he met.

Cremation and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Bubble's wish was that people donate to OSAS, or the Racetrack Chaplaincy, or to any of their favourite charities, in his name.

I'm very saddened to hear this news. I'll miss your wit and humour my friend. You were truly a great guy.

My sincere condolences go out to Sheila... you loved and cared for him like no other my dear.

We have lost another gem from the Golden Era of Harness Racing. Bubble and I worked together developing Cam's Fortune for Brian Burton. A great horseman that worked hard and partied hard. I will miss your sharp wit that used to greet me at the barn at 6 am. We were friends till the end. My deepest condolences to Sheila, who took caretaking to a new level.

Very sorry to hear. Bubs was a really good guy that will be missed.
